Welcome to The Swedish Medical Association!

The Swedish Medical Association is the trade union and professional organisation for all doctors in Sweden. Patient safety, working environment, salaries, education, medical ethics and research are some of the issues that are of great importance for our organisation.

The Swedish Medical Association (SMA) is open to all doctors throughout their entire career. We work actively to shorten the entrance to labour market  for doctors with education from another country. Immigrant healthcare professionals can, in addition to their medical skills, contribute to strengthen language skills and cultural understanding within the Swedish healthcare sector.

On the pages in the right menu, we provide information for doctors interested in working in Sweden. You can find instructions how to obtain Swedish medical license depending on your county of education and also information about obtaining your specialist certificate. Furthermore, we shortly describe Swedish healthcare system, labour market and working conditions for doctors.
